Custom headboards are an increasingly popular option for interior designers to accentuate elements of a bedroom. The headboards can be mounted against a wall or to a bed frame and there are endless combinations for integrating them into a space. If you have a large painting or mirror behind your bed and would like to have it framed above the mattress perfectly, a headboard is necessary. Often headboards sold in stores tend to be overly bulky or aesthetically the combination of size and design doesn’t work. A fabric headboard allows you to match anything, curtains, pillows, throw rugs, etc, and, once complete, can always be reupholstered later if you would like to integrate a new design.
This is a custom wood and upholstered headboard in the master bedroom of an apartment on the Upper East Side designed by Gilliam Rose. The soft color palette creates a calm inviting space that blends perfectly with the light finish on the wood frame and the fabric in the center of this custom headboard.
Pictured is a clean contemporary custom headboard that we created and installed for a client in the city. For this project the client picked a rich velvet fabric in a dark navy blue color. It is handmade out of solid wood and can be designed to fit any space. There are many different styles of headboards ranging from very simple to elaborate. We’re created some with wood carving and others with fabric and hand carved motifs. A popular option is tufted (with buttons) headboards and depending on preference and style the headboard can either be wall mounted or mounted to the bed frame.
