Round Art Deco dining table

By | January 26th, 2013|Art Deco, Dining Tables, ERA Interiors, Tables|

We just completed a round art deco dining table for a client in Soho.  The table measures 60″ in diameter and is 29″ tall.  The client was shopping for a table and found one at an antiques dealer’s gallery. The color, size and finish were not right for their dining room so they sent us photos of the original and opted for a custom table instead.  This table features book matched walnut and a pedestal base. Generally custom dining tables similar to this require a lead time of 12-14 weeks.

DINING TABLE FOR EIGHT PEOPLE

By | January 19th, 2013|all, Designs, Dining Space, Dining Tables, Neoclassical, STYLES, Tables|

Deciding the number of people you would like to seat at a dining table is important before you decide on it’s size. It is also very important to consider the size of the table in the space. The table should be to scale and proportion in reference to the size of the dining room. If the shape of the dining room is rectangular you should consider a rectangular or oval dining table and if the room is square a round or square table will work best.

Round dinig tables that are 66″ – 72″  in diameter will seat 8 people.  Rectangular dining table that are 96″  long will also seat 8 people. Here are some images that illustrate a round and a rectangular dining table that will seat eight people.Dining Table for eight people

Pictured is a custom neoclassical dining table we completed for a client on Central Park West last week.  The table measured 8 feet without the extension leaves, 9 1/2 feet with one extension and 11 feet with two extension leaves.  The table was created out of mahagony and featured ribbon maogany veneer, lacewood veneer and custom extension leaves.  Clients in New York City hire ERA Interiors to create and design custom high end dining tables to fit rooms which vary in size.  This table has three lengths which make it a versatile option for dinner parties of different sizes, and we created a custom storage solution for the leaves to be stored inside in the table when not in use.

CUSTOM DINING TABLE DESIGN

By | December 26th, 2011|all, Designs, Dining Space, Dining Tables, Tables|

To create a custom dining table there are three essential elements to consider: size, shape and design style. The size of a dining table should be determined by the number of people seated and the size of the room. The ideal distance between the edge of the table and closest object should be four feet or more to allow enough space for the seating and walking areas.

The shape of a dining table can vary from round to square and rectangular to oval. Considering the shape of the room is essential when deciding on the shape of the dining table. The right table shape will enhance the overall design creating a harmonious, proportional interior space.

The design style is also a fundamental factor in determining if a dining table will work in a space. Some of the most popular/iconic table designs are: Regency, Biedermeier and Art Deco. Here is an image that illustrates the size and shape of the dining tables in reference to the room/space.round and square custom dining tables

CERUSED OAK DINING TABLE

By | October 17th, 2011|all, Ceruse finish, Contemporary, Designs, Dining Space, Dining Tables, Tables|

A cerused finish is created by using an open grain wood such as oak and applying a base stain of one color (gray/green stain) and a paste filler of a different color (white filler).  Solid white oak is the best wood to use when creating a custom piece of furniture where the client wants the highest quality cerused two-tone finish. White oak is an open grain hardwood known for being very durable, strong with a fine texture and is more expensive than red oak.

This 14′ custom dining table is made out of solid white oak wood with a cerused finish. We built this custom table for a client in CT over the summer. Often when building a dining table over 8′ long,  extension leaves for the table top are optional, but for this project the client requested a one piece table top. The gray/green color was custom made to match a color sample provided by the client and the cerused finish was selected/specified before production began.  To read more about the types and characteristics of oak wood visit: http://www.craftsman-style.info/finishing/063-oak.htm.
