Swedish side chair

Designer: Grant K Gibson

The Gustavian chairs incorporated in the design to the left reminded me of a set of six Swedish dining chairs we created a few years ago. The dining room set of chairs were drawn from an original Gustavian chair that the client had found at a show. The additional five chairs were custom made by ERA Interiors for the project and were finished to match the existing gold leaf of the original chair. These chairs look elegant in modern as well as traditional spaces and incorporate the warmth prevalent in this historic design style.

LOOP CHAIR BY FRANCES ELKINS

By | March 21st, 2011|all, Chairs, Dining Space, Frances Elkins, Office Space, SEATING, Side chairs|

Here’s a great post illustrating some of the different styles of the Loop Chair by Frances Elkins. We’ve done a few variations of the loop chair for clients in the city, these photos most accurately represent the style we created. The chairs require a high level of skill and are fairly time consuming to create. The popular, iconic style matches well with a glass or lacquer table, and also can be used on their own as desk chair.loop chair

CUSTOM FURNITURE REPRODUCTIONS

By | February 7th, 2011|Chairs, Dining chairs, Dining Space, French Hand Polish, Reproduction, Side chairs|

It is essential to have a master craftsman with the ability  and knowledge necessary to create an identical reproduction.  There are a  lot of factors involved  in reproducing a furniture design including using the same materials/wood type and creating the same finish.  Here the client provided the chair on the left side and we created an identical side chair that will be finished and upholstered with the same finish and fabric as the original. When creating an identical match, especially if the two furniture pieces are located in the same space, we strongly recommend that the client to provide us with the original furniture piece so we can create an identical furniture match.

VINTAGE INSPIRED FURNITURE

Designer: Steven Gambrel

.

Pictured is a dining space that was designed and created by Steven Gambrel. The dining chairs  in the picture are vintage and were provided by Axel Vervoordt . These dining chairs are very similar to a pair of solid oak chairs we are currently making for a client.  The new custom chairs will be finished in a light natural wood polish and will feature brushed stainless steel metal stretchers at the bottom of the chairs, instead of the wood stretchers featured in chairs in the picture.  The main advantages of creating custom furniture is the flexibility and the great number of elements that could be incorporated or changed to achieve the clients desired furniture design.

The Essence of beautiful handmade furniture

By | January 28th, 2011|Regency, Side chairs|

spoon back chairA great article from the September 2006 issue of architectural digest interviewing Axel Vervoordt and highlighting the fundamental essence of creating and designing high end handmade furniture. “Chairs “sit,” tables “live” and “grow old” and, refreshingly, “get better with age.” Bringing together antique and contemporary pieces is, he observes, “like a dialogue. It’s like bringing people together around the table to have a nice dinner.” We as humans are constantly looking for that authentic, human connection, whether it’s a 200 or 20 year old handmade chair, piece of music or painting, the ability to feel the essence of the works’ creation is what gives them their value.

Designing and creating something handmade that will immediately look amazing in your commercial or residential space, and ten times better in twenty or fifty years, is a key factor to consider when purchasing a piece. Although the pictured spoon back chair was recently created by Vervoordt’s firm, it can fit effortlessly into a 17th century european villa filled with antiques.

BLACK LACQUER TABLE & WHITE MARBLE TOP

By | November 24th, 2010|all, Coffee tables, Kitchen, Lacquer furniture, Reproduction, ROOM, Side chairs, Tables|

When searching for a white crystallized glass material for a custom furniture console we are making for a client in NYC, we came across this great white polished marble slab on the left. This exceptional natural stone is reminiscent of the coffee table on the right. The table features a similar white marble on the top that contrasts the black lacquered wood structure. There are endless choices for counter tops that could be incorporated into custom furniture consoles and coffee tables.  Among the most popular counter tops are glass, natural stones, petrified woods and corian tops.  Often adding these elements can be what really separates a piece of furniture in terms of originality.
