Neoclassical Sideboard

By | March 29th, 2013|Cabinets, CASE PIECES, Credenzas, ERA Interiors, French Hand Polish, Living Space|

Pictured is a neoclassical sideboard we created for a client near Columbus Circle. This piece is going to be used in the living room as a TV cabinet. We installed a tv lift inside and utilized brass hardware which contrasts with the dark finish. The sideboard has 4 doors and the 3 top drawers are fixed as the space was needed for the TV lift mechanism.

Custom Biedermeir Sideboard

By | April 25th, 2012|Biedermeier, Cabinets, CASE PIECES, Credenzas, Designs, French Hand Polish, Living Space|

Pictured is a custom Biedermeir sideboard we created based off an inspiration image. Often clients provide images from Antique auctions such as a Christie’s auction lot featuring Austrian Biedermeir tables, sideboards and credenzas.  From the inspiration image we are able to meticulously create a custom, original piece.  We begin the production process with shop drawings for client approval and before the piece is ready for finish we send out finish sameples.  On this piece the four doors are framed and veneered in clutch mahogany.  Each door contains two inside drawers which are hand dovetailed and adjustable. The doors have solid brass locks and sideboard was completed with a french hand polish finish.

Neoclassical custom dining table with extension leaves

By | March 19th, 2012|Dining Space, Dining Tables, French Hand Polish, Neoclassical, Veneering work|

Pictured is a custom neoclassical dining table we completed for a client on Central Park West last week.  The table measured 8 feet without the extension leaves, 9 1/2 feet with one extension and 11 feet with two extension leaves.  The table was created out of mahagony and featured ribbon maogany veneer, lacewood veneer and custom extension leaves.  Clients in New York City hire ERA Interiors to create and design custom high end dining tables to fit rooms which vary in size.  This table has three lengths which make it a versatile option for dinner parties of different sizes, and we created a custom storage solution for the leaves to be stored inside in the table when not in use.

REGENCY DINING ROOM TABLE

round dining room tables
This is the completed Regency round dining table. The table top features an apron which gives the table a more elegant look. Regency tables are also popular in oval and rectangular shapes. Depending on the length of the table, they can have a double pedestal and a triple pedestal.

When designing a dining room, it is important to keep in mind the size and shape of the space and the furniture elements. Whether the room is rectangular or square should be considered when selecting the shape of the dining table. Scale and proportion are also important factors to consider when deciding on the dining table’s size and shape.

FRENCH MODERN DINING FURNITURE

By | May 4th, 2011|Chairs, Dining chairs, Dining Space, Dining Tables, French Hand Polish, French Modern, SEATING, Tables|

This dining room features a dining room set in the French Modern style.  French modern furniture has a simple, linear character with the fine craftsmanship similar to those of traditional furniture designs.  This style of furniture can match nicely with other styles including art deco and a range of contemporary styles.  Some of the noted French modern furniture designers (or designers who achieved notoriety in France) include Eileen Gray, Jean Prouvre and Le Corbusier.  Modani has a nice summary of some of Eileen Gray and Le Corbusier’s work. Dining room designed by Glenn Gissler Design.

PEDESTAL DINING ROOM TABLE

By | April 26th, 2011|all, Center table, Designs, Dining Space, Dining Tables, French Hand Polish, Regency, Tables|

pedestal dining room tablePictured is a single pedestal round Regency dining table we are finishing up at our studio.  One of the principal elements of Regency furniture is the combination of touches of exotic ornamentation with classical motifs.  Many of the design motifs in Regency furniture were influenced by ornamentation prevalent in France, Belgium and England. Regency furniture is known for combining modulated curves with straight lines. Thomas Hope, perhaps Regency’s most famous furniture designer, incorporated exotic details in his furniture including animal heads and paws, sphinx shaped supports and carytids.  This solid mahogany dining table features hand carved acanthus leaves, rosettes on the feet, and a diamond shaped pattern almost representing a pineapple.  If you are looking for a dining table in the Regency style, there are several variations in this design style with varying leg widths, brass feet and alternate base carvings.

INCREASING POPULARITY OF CUSTOM FURNITURE

By | April 20th, 2011|all, Consoles Tables, Entry, French Hand Polish|

Great article on the Wall Street Journal today about custom handmade furniture. The vast majority of furniture related products in stores is mass produced and machine made, even in many of the supposed “higher end” retail stores.  Machine made furniture is so prevalent unless people have antiques they often are unaware of the enormous difference in quality between handmade and machine made furniture.  With high end wood custom furniture hardware and screws will be rarely if at all visible and more often solid wood will be used.  Within the custom wood furniture production world there is a wide range of talent, from entry level woodmakers  to many intermediate to few master craftsman furniture makers.contemporary modern furniture
