ERA Interiors Custom Furniture
Here is another version of the loop chair we recently completed for a client. Originally designed by Frances Elkins, the loop chair looks beautiful in a number of different variations.
This is the completed Regency round dining table. The table top features an apron which gives the table a more elegant look. Regency tables are also popular in oval and rectangular shapes. Depending on the length of the table, they can have a double pedestal and a triple pedestal.
When designing a dining room, it is important to keep in mind the size and shape of the space and the furniture elements. Whether the room is rectangular or square should be considered when selecting the shape of the dining table. Scale and proportion are also important factors to consider when deciding on the dining table’s size and shape.
Louis Philippe mirrors are very popular and often incorporated into high end residential design projects. They can be placed on top of fireplaces, behind a sofa in living rooms, and in bedrooms, entries and dining areas. Something very important to avoid when locating furniture pieces with a gold or silver leaf finish is the temperatures that the furniture piece will be exposed to. Drastic and extreme temperatures can damage the piece whether it is an antique or a custom piece. This is a silver leaf Louis Philippe mirror with a pearl trim detail that we created for a client in a custom size. This style is very popular and we also offer it with a gold leaf finish.
Pictured to the left is a solid mahogany wood mirror with an ebonized finish and silver leaf detail. The mirror to the right is a solid mahogany mirror with French hand polish finish and a gold leaf detail on top.
Here is another version of the T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings we created for a client in East Hampton, Long Island. The house is located on the beach and they wanted light, modern lounge chairs for their living room. These chairs are popular with many different interior design styles and we have done different versions of it. To see other options see here and here.
This is a pair of custom bed end x base Spanish benches we just finished. They were custom ordered in a different size but with the same finish as the X Base oak bench we offer in our ERA Interiors store. Bed end benches are functional, popular and a way to add a design element to a bed without purchasing a new headboard. One of the most popular bed end benches is the Contemporary storage bench.
French Modern furniture combines traditional elegance, functionalism and innovation. French modernism is a style that was embraced at the end of the French Art Deco period and some of the best known furniture and interior designers are Jean-Michel Frank, Jean Prouve and Charlotte Perriand. Pictured is a pair of side chairs that were inspired by the French Modern style and feature clean-lined contemporary forms with metal feet.
Below left is the inspiration image a client provided us for a custom high gloss lacquer entryway table he wanted designed for his residence. Below right is the completed custom lacquer version by ERA Interiors. Usually we’ll begin with a shop
drawing of the furniture and go over the specifications, hardware and dimensions prior to
production. If you saw something in a store and it’s not perfect, having the image is a very
helpful way to start for custom furniture. With larger projects, especially tables over 10′ or
over sized credenzas, if the vendor is local we’ll often send someone to inspect the piece of
furniture prior to production.
There are many ways to discern whether or not a piece of furniture is machine made
(almost always in larger or well known stores with mass produced products). In addition to
the materials used often you can tell visually if you can see the hardware, screws or gaps
between the edges of wood. If someone is trying to sell something as “vintage” or
“handmade” it’s worth it to look underneath for some of these tell tale signs.
Here’s a photo of the completed mid century counter stools in the Central Park East apartment kitchen. Bar stools are usually 30″ and counter stools 25″, it’s important to factor in the height.
The height also can be custom, some spaces have higher counters where ideally the deals are several inches taller than 25″. There are also several additional metal options pictured here, as well as a closeup of the cherry wood grain for this particular mid century style.
Pictured is a set of counter stools we designed and created for a client on 5th Ave. For these stools we used solid cherry wood with a French hand polished finish. Cherry, like walnut, has one of the nicest natural wood grains in the world, and although rarer and more expensive, is an excellent option for furniture. The brushed stainless steel metal rings were also custom made to fit the legs. The stools are available either as 25″ counter stools or 30″ bar stools and, as with all of our furniture, can be be designed incorporating several different wood, finish and metal options. If you have a modern space they look beautiful in natural walnut with brushed steel finished rings as well as with white lacquer and brushed brass or darken brass metal rings. Originally they were designed in the Mid-Century modern style and tend to match well with with a variety of interior spaces.
