Here are some additional photos of a Biedermeier sideboard we created for a client based off of a Christie’s auction listing in the spring. The dimensions are 7’6″ width x 36″ tall x 24″ deep and it features two drawers and adjustable shelves. As with almost all of our furniture, the finish and size can be customized based on the client’s preference.

Custom Biedermeir Sideboard

By | April 25th, 2012|Biedermeier, Cabinets, CASE PIECES, Credenzas, Designs, French Hand Polish, Living Space|

Pictured is a custom Biedermeir sideboard we created based off an inspiration image. Often clients provide images from Antique auctions such as a Christie’s auction lot featuring Austrian Biedermeir tables, sideboards and credenzas.  From the inspiration image we are able to meticulously create a custom, original piece.  We begin the production process with shop drawings for client approval and before the piece is ready for finish we send out finish sameples.  On this piece the four doors are framed and veneered in clutch mahogany.  Each door contains two inside drawers which are hand dovetailed and adjustable. The doors have solid brass locks and sideboard was completed with a french hand polish finish.

BIEDERMEIER ROUND DINING TABLE

By | June 22nd, 2011|all, Biedermeier, Designs, Dining Space, Dining Tables, Tables|

Here’s a biedermeier dining table we recently completed for a client in the Hamptons.  Some principal components of Biedermeier furniture include straight lines and a lack of carving.  This design features a single pedestal in the Tuscan Classical column shape and an ebonized reel detail on the bottom of the base. The natural grain of the wood and the veneer, are the most important decorative elements of this piece. The single pedestal terminates in a tripartite base and the table top is veneered in cherry with a star pattern eminating from the center.

ADDITIONAL PHOTO BIEDERMEIER CENTER TABLE

By | November 27th, 2010|all, Biedermeier, Center table, Living Space|

Here is another photos of the Biedermeier center table posted thursday.  Pictured is the base, the top can be designed larger or smaller depending on the size of the space.  Generally the top must be no larger than double the diameter of the base, so theoretically the top of this table could size up to 58″.  If the top is too large it can effect the stability of the table.

BIEDERMEIER CENTER TABLE

By | November 25th, 2010|all, Biedermeier, Center table, Dining Space, Living Space, Reproduction, Side tables, Tables|

This is a biedermeier center table we completed for a client with a pre-war Upper East Side three bedroom apartment.  They had a mix of furniture styles and wanted a simple, modern center table for the living room.  They had a nice Biedermeier sofa (pictured left) so matching the table while not overtaking the other elements of the room was essential.  The interior designer requested a table which would fit nicely into the left hand corner of the space.  This is a simple round center table based on a 19th century Austrian Biedermeier design and measures 30″ high with a diameter of 31″.

Biedermeier side table design

By | November 20th, 2010|all, Biedermeier, Living Space, STYLES|

These are the reference photos the client provided us as reference for the biedemeier side table design.  They liked the shape and style of the first table, but not the finish and had a black lacquer console in the living room they wanted to match the tables with.  They liked the legs of the 2nd table but not the top, and the base of the third table but not the finish or the oval design in the middle of the base.  They wanted a cleaner base in the center of the table to give it a more finished look so we created a black lacquer x base. Our design incorporates elements from different Biedemeier designs. It’s important to be able to articulate in as much detail as possible what you are looking for when designing a custom piece of furniture.

Biedermeier Side Table

By | November 19th, 2010|all, Biedermeier, Living Space, ROOM, Side tables, STYLES, Tables|

This is a pair of Biedermeier side tables we created for a client last summer who has a beautiful duplex on the Upper West Side overlooking the Hudson river.  The Bidermeier style encompasses an enormous range of eras from clean lines and mostly functional elements to highly intricate and ornate furniture.  This particular piece has canted sabre legs with a black lacquer base and is made out of mahogany.  It’s a variation on an antique the client saw at a dealer’s show in Westchester.  When you don’t completely love an antique it’s often hard to justify the expense when for less money you can usually design your own piece which will be yours.

mahogany round dining table
Pictured is a 6 foot round dining table inspired by the Biedermeier style with a contemporary art deco twist. It features a solid mahogany top on a single pedestal base and can sit 6-8 people comfortably. These tables can be custom made to any size and with a larger base that supports the piece a leaf can be incorporated to extend the table.

Wall mounted demilune console

By | August 30th, 2010|all, Biedermeier, Consoles Tables, Veneering work|

Biedermeier demilune console tableThis demilune console table is a great example of furniture created during the Biedermeier period from 1800’s.  The console’s clean lines are accentuated by the rich wood grain of walnut veneer which adorns this piece of furniture creating an elegant look. The Biedermeier furniture style was popular in the Northern part of Europe and some of the original pieces date back to the early 1800’s.  This style of furniture is generally costly due to the use of veneering, the hand french polish finishing technique utilized, and the high skill needed to create Biedermeier furniture. The presence of the organic curved support is a sign that this design dates from the later part of the Biedermeier period.
