DINING TABLE FOR EIGHT PEOPLE

By | January 19th, 2013|all, Designs, Dining Space, Dining Tables, Neoclassical, STYLES, Tables|

Deciding the number of people you would like to seat at a dining table is important before you decide on it’s size. It is also very important to consider the size of the table in the space. The table should be to scale and proportion in reference to the size of the dining room. If the shape of the dining room is rectangular you should consider a rectangular or oval dining table and if the room is square a round or square table will work best.

Round dinig tables that are 66″ – 72″  in diameter will seat 8 people.  Rectangular dining table that are 96″  long will also seat 8 people. Here are some images that illustrate a round and a rectangular dining table that will seat eight people.Dining Table for eight people

Pictured is a custom neoclassical dining table we completed for a client on Central Park West last week.  The table measured 8 feet without the extension leaves, 9 1/2 feet with one extension and 11 feet with two extension leaves.  The table was created out of mahagony and featured ribbon maogany veneer, lacewood veneer and custom extension leaves.  Clients in New York City hire ERA Interiors to create and design custom high end dining tables to fit rooms which vary in size.  This table has three lengths which make it a versatile option for dinner parties of different sizes, and we created a custom storage solution for the leaves to be stored inside in the table when not in use.

Custom credenza inspired by Paolo Buffa

By | January 18th, 2011|Credenzas, Neoclassical, Paolo Buffa|

Following up on yesterday’s post about italian furniture designer Paolo Buffa, this is a custom credenza conceived by an interior design firm that we created in the fall.  The designer wanted to incorporate the wood grain in a similar 4 section diamond shaped inward pattern, but wanted different edges, moldings, hardware, legs and a custom size.

Paolo Buffa – Italian furniture designer

By | January 17th, 2011|all, Art Deco, Neoclassical|

Paolo Buffa was an Italian cabinet maker who began his career in 1927 working under the eye of Italian architect and furniture designer Gio Ponti and in 1928 working with architect A. Cassi Ramelli.  Buffa was known for his extraordinary level of craftsmanship in his furniture and his ability to incorporate traditional designs with more modern elements in his furniture.  The early part of his career
featured neo classical style and towards the end of the 1920s he began expanding his designs to incorporate more exotic shapes and elements. He is considered one of the early pioneers of modernism in furniture throughout the world which began to take root in the 1950s as well as an early inspiration for much of the art deco furniture created.  Many designers today cite Paolo Buffa as a major inspiration for his original and iconic designs.  There are some great examples of his work listed here and here.

Elle Decor posted this great photo of an interior designed by Michael S. Smith incorporating one of Paolo Buffa’s cabinets.
