Georgian mahogany stools

Georgian stools

These mahogany stools were inspired by the elegant Georgian Style furniture from the 1800’s. The stools feature motifs of classical origin such as rosettes and the sharpness of the curves is characteristic of furniture created during this period. For these pieces we used hand carved wood as an ornament. For this project the client provided us with an image of an English Georgian chair and we created a pair of stools that complemented the other furniture in the living room of a classical townhouse in Manhattan.

Demilune side table

By | August 19th, 2010|all, Georgian|

handmade console tableThe Georgian age period, also known as the “Golden Age of Furniture”, featured the iconic designers Hepplewhite, Cheppendale, Sheraton and Adam.  Georgian furniture features a mix of elements from various styles including the straight lines from the Palladine period, the gateleg table design from the Jacobean period, and an overall conservative approach without intricate carving similar to the Empire furniture period.  This demilune (half moon) mahogany table was inspired by the Georgian style from the 18th century.  It features square tapered legs characteristic of the Georgian style with ebony inlays and cross-banded frieze along the edges. The overall linear and elegant appearance of this furniture piece was inspired by the proportions from the Georgian period .
