By | February 17th, 2011|all, Bedroom, Dining Space, Greek revival, Living Space, Regency, Thomas Hope|

Thomas Hope was an English collector and furniture designer whose designs were inspired by Greek, Roman and Egyptian styles. These illustrations are light, elegant chairs with broad curved top rails and distinctive concave saber legs that  curve outwards. This design was strongly influenced by the Ancient Greek Klismos chair.
Thomas Hope (1770-1831) created Greek Revival furniture and interior spaces that are illustrated in his book  Household Furniture and Interior Decoration. The Greek Revival Style often features painted furniture with motifs. These  Greek Revival chairs have been highly a popular style in new custom furniture design .

KLISMOS CHAIR

By | February 1st, 2011|Dining chairs, French Hand Polish, Greek, Reproduction|

Here is another version of a Klismos chair brought into our studio for production.  The client likes the shape but would like a new fabric and another matching chair for a set. Having an original is always the best, however not always possible.

This version of the Klismos, especially the seatback is quite popular and looks great in a number of different of variations.  We’ve done several klismos chairs over the years including this ebonized version and here is an extended discussion on it with several other variations.
