Louis XV Lounge Chair

By | August 8th, 2010|Rococo|

This an upholstered arm chair with open sides, an exposed frame and a loose cushion seat.  It’s called a Bergerie chair in France and was inspired by the Rococo style.   Curves replaced the straight lines and symmetry of the earlier Baroque period.  Rococo furniture was designed for comfort and the double cushion exemplifies this.  Shells, scrolls and stylized flowers are hand carved throughout the piece and cabriolet legs and scroll feet comprise the base.
