For this project the client provided us with a wood parquet piece ( left side) and we created the original custom made wood table on the right of it. This design incorporates the client’s wood parquet piece in the center and it was cut in half and centered on the top of the coffee table. This table features clean linear legs and a dark inlay that frames the center part of the table and the edges of the legs in the front as well as the sides.
Often rare and exotic woods such as ebony are not used in large pieces of furniture due to the cost and availability. Usually using ebony veneer outlay and a combination of woods can bring down the cost somewhat while giving a one of a kind original look. Here we can see a custom desk and clean shelves covered with Macassar ebony which goes from dark brown to black with an accent of yellow-brown bands. This exceptional hardwood is one of the finest hardwoods in the world and has become a highly desired for its aesthetic appeal and characteristics.
This custom coffee table was inspired by George Nakashima. Clients often want custom tables that are one of a kind and will not be seen anywhere else. Each piece is particularly unique because every tabletop is a solid piece taken from the base of a walnut tree. Depending on the shape, age, and location of the tree the grain and colorization can vary greatly. We also create similar pieces for desks, side tables and dressers. They are sought after especially in regions such as Northern California, Montana, Wyoming, and for clients in cities who want to incorporate a very organic/natural element a home. A nice aspect to pieces like this is they can fit in nicely to many different types of spaces, whether they are traditional, contemporary or eclectic. A medium toned finish with the walnut wood above often can match nicely with antiques with similar tones and it can also accentuate warmth in the white space of a more modern interior.
