Regency style black lacquered benchPictured is a pair of Regency benches marked by a clean design illustrated by the use of Greek curves. The black lacquered benches display a graceful silhouette created by the delicate ball feet and caned seats with loose seat cushions on the top.  The Regency style is a broad category applying to a variety of different types of furniture but mainly refers to Neoclassical furniture.  Mahogany was prevalent in Regency furniture and was often coupled with lighter woods including rosewood, zebrawood, maple and satinwood.  The double curved cabriole legs were replaced single curved legs resembling the Greek Klismos chair legs.  Regency furniture incorporated a variety of ornamentation and some of the more popular decorative elements included palmettes, lyres, Greek frets and acanthus leaves.
