solid wood furniture

There are many ways to determine if a piece of furniture is made out of solid wood  or if  the material used was made to look like solid wood.  Generally solid wood furniture is heavier than furniture made out of manufactured or synthetic wood materials. The grain and vein of the wood especially on the edges of the furniture piece will also tell the buyer if the material used was a solid piece of wood. Color variation and grain pattern can also reflect the quality of the material used. Solid wood is essential when you want to achieve a certain look of the grain and texture or for projects where a piece needs to be matched perfectly to another piece or as part of a set.  As solid wood ages, it gets darker and the grain changes, this is a way to tell possibly how old a piece of furniture is.
